Bridging Now to Next – Sea of Hands for Reconciliation Week at Guildford PS

Guildford Public School proudly continued our annual Sea of Hands tradition in recognition of National Reconciliation Week 2025. This year’s theme, “Bridging Now to Next,” reflects the ongoing connection between past, present, and future. It calls on all Australians to step forward together, guided by the lessons of the past, as we continue the journey toward a more united and respectful nation.

Our entire school community took part in this powerful event, with every student placing a hand into the ground to form the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags - a symbol of unity, respect, and commitment to reconciliation. The hands, decorated with meaningful messages like “Sorry” and “Thank you for sharing this land,” served as reminders of the power of voice and action, even from our youngest changemakers.

We were honoured to be joined by Aunty Carol, whose presence brought warmth, cultural insight, and connection to the day. She helped guide our students through a special experience, including face painting and cultural sharing, creating lasting memories for many.

A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Beatty and Miss McConville for organising the event, and to all staff who supported the students to engage with the spirit and meaning of the day.

At Guildford PS, reconciliation is not just a moment - it’s an everyday commitment. Through reflection, learning, and meaningful action, we continue to bridge now to next, walking forward together toward a better future for all.

Always Was, Always Will Be.
